Carrot seed essential oil is steam distilled from the seeds of Daucus carota. This aromatherapy oil which is used to manage mature and prematurely aging skin as well as treat skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, can also be used to make hair care products.
#1 Carrot Seed Pre Shampoo Oil
Carrot seed essential oil is used to treat damaged hair. It can therefore be mixed with carrier oils which penetrate the hair shaft to make a pre poo hot oil for treating damaged hair.

Recipe
1.5 oz (45 ml) jojoba
1.5 oz (45 ml) coconut oil
36 drops carrot seed essential oil
This carrot seed pre poo oil can be made more potent by adding other essential oils that are used for damaged hair like clary sage essential oil.

#2 Carrot Seed Conditioner
Since this aromatherapy oil which is rich in vitamin A deeply nourishes the hair, it can also be used to make deep conditioners for damaged hair.

Recipe
4 oz (120 ml) coconut oil
4 oz (120 ml) aloe vera gel
4 oz (120 ml) yogurt
50 drops carrot seed essential oil
This carrot seed conditioner can also be made more effective by adding Roman chamomile essential oil which is another essential oil used to treat damaged hair.
#3 Carrot Seed Shampoo
Carrot seed essential oil can also be used to make healing shampoos for damaged hair.

Recipe
4 oz (120 ml) liquid Castile soap
1 oz (30 ml) water
1 oz (30 ml) jojoba
50 drops carrot seed essential oil
This carrot seed shampoo can also be made more potent by lavender essential oil which is another aromatherapy oil that rejuvenates damaged hair.

Before Using Carrot Seed Essential Oil
Before adding carrot seed essential oil to your hair care regimen, ensure that you are not pregnant since its safety in pregnancy has not been established.

In addition, if you have never used carrot seed essential oil before, do a patch test by adding 4 drops to 5 ml of a carrier oil like jojoba or olive oil. Apply this mixture to the inside of your forearm and bandage it. After 2 days, remove the bandage and look for redness, irritation and other signs of a skin reaction. If they are present, do not use carrot seed essential oil.
